IS THERE A GIFT FOR ME?

ree

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8–9

As Christmas approaches, many people ask, “Is there a gift for me?” We look under trees, wait for packages, and anticipate surprises. Yet the greatest gift ever given is not wrapped in paper or placed beneath a tree, it was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:8–9 that salvation is the gift of God. It is not earned by good deeds, achievements, or status. It is given freely by grace, received through faith. This means that no matter who you are, where you’ve been, or what you’ve done, there is indeed a gift for you, the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

This gift is unlike any other. It is undeserved, because grace means we receive what we could never earn. It is unearned, because works cannot purchase it; only faith receives it. It is universal, offered to all who believe, regardless of background. And it is eternal, lasting forever, unlike earthly gifts that fade. Romans 6:23 echoes this truth: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Just as a present must be opened to be enjoyed, salvation must be received by faith. John 1:12 declares, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” Receiving this gift means opening your heart to Christ, trusting Him as Savior, and allowing His grace to transform your life.

This gift also changes how we live each day. In our families, it teaches us to share forgiveness and love as freely as God shared His grace. In our workplaces, it calls us to walk with integrity, knowing we represent the Giver of life. In our churches, it inspires us to serve with humility, remembering salvation is not of works. And in our personal journey, it gives us rest in the assurance that we are saved by grace, not performance.

The greatest gift is not found under the tree but on the cross. Salvation is God’s answer to the question, “Is there a gift for me?” And the answer is a resounding yes. Through Jesus Christ, God has given you grace, redemption, and eternal life. So this Christmas, while you may receive or give many gifts, remember the one gift that changes everything. Open it daily, live it boldly, and share it freely.
