Tribute to the Late Brother Calvin Cooke (an audio tribute)

Calvin Cooke lived a life that exemplified the grace and power of the true and living God. His gift was not merely musical talent—it was an anointing that carried the weight of divine purpose. Every note he played was a testimony, every melody a prayer, and every chord a declaration of faith. His hands, guided by the Spirit, transformed steel strings into vessels of worship, ushering in an atmosphere where heaven touched earth. Like David, who played skillfully before the Lord, Calvin understood that music was more than sound; it was ministry. His steel guitar became an instrument of healing, restoration, and revival. Whether in a church service, a gathering of believers, or a quiet moment of reflection, his music carried the presence of God, stirring hearts and lifting souls. He did not simply perform; he worshiped, and in doing so, he led others into the presence of the Almighty God. He was a friend to many, a teacher to most, and a vessel of integrity to all. His wisdom and kindness shaped lives, his mentorship inspired countless musicians, and his unwavering character set a standard of excellence. He walked in humility, carrying himself with grace and respect, always ensuring that his work honored God above all else. His life was a testament to unwavering faith, humility, and dedication to his calling. He walked in the power of the Holy Spirit, using his gift to glorify God and inspire generations. Though he has departed from this world, his sound will never fade. His legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who heard him play, in the worship services where his music once soared, and in the lives he touched. “To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.” 1 Samuel 20:18. The sound of the legendary maestro, Calvin Cooke, shall continue to live on, through each symphonic note played by all who hold dear his legacy. May he rest in the arms of the Lord until that great sound of the first trumpet calls him home. Respectfully Submitted, Bishop Charlene M. EMPOWERMENT SERIES: "HOW TO EFFECTIVELY CONNECT THE CHURCH WITH THE COMMUNITY, WITHOUT DISCONNECTING THE STANDARDS (BIBLICAL BELIEFS/ MORALS) OF THE CHURCH." During this impactful webinar, Reverend E. Shane Lee, Moderator, along with panelist: General Elder Elton Noble, Elder Wynette Bryant and Reverend LaTonya Rogers emphasized the importance of engaging the next generation within the church community for its growth and sustainability. To achieve this, several methods were suggested which could not only attract youth and young adults but also provide them with a strong biblical basis. First and foremost, the panelist jointly recommended youth-led services, where young individuals could take the helm of certain services or events with the help of experienced leaders. This will enable them to develop a sense of responsibility and will ensure that their voices are heard. Additionally, to build intergenerational relationships with wisdom transfer, youth mentorship programs could be set up where older church members mentor the younger ones. Exploring smaller gatherings in the form of youth small groups or Bible studies was suggested by the panelist jointly, where youth can discuss relevant topics, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of scriptures. At the same time, community service projects can involve the youth and young adults in local charity work, teaching them the importance of serving others and embodying the hands and feet of Jesus. The panelist jointly also recognized the crucial role of technology and social media in catering to younger generations. Facilitating the sharing of biblical teachings and personal experiences through interactive mediums such as podcasts, videos, or social media platforms can reach a wider audience and engage the youth on platforms they're familiar with. Striking relevance with the young people's lives is important and the panelist jointly stressed on relating biblical teachings to topics such as peer pressure, identity, relationships, and mental health. Furthermore, discipleship programs tailored for young people can help guide their spiritual growth and understanding of the Bible. Lastly, organizing youth retreats or conferences can serve as a platform for young people to deepen their faith and get inspired to make an impact in their communities. Implementing these methods can build a stronger youth foundation in the church community, according to the panelist jointly. It is significantly important to pay heed to their voices, empower them, and create opportunities that foster their faith growth. MODERATOR: Reverend E.
