Evangelism: Its Importance and Universal Reach

Evangelism, derived from the Greek word "euangelion," meaning "good news," is the act of spreading the message of Jesus Christ. It is a fundamental aspect of Christianity, rooted in the Great Commission given by Jesus to His disciples in Matthew 28:19-20: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." This directive underscores the importance of evangelism as a means to share the transformative power of the Gospel with all people, regardless of their background.

The importance of evangelism cannot be overstated. It is through evangelism that individuals come to know the love, grace, and salvation offered by Jesus Christ. Romans 10:14-15 highlights this necessity: "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" Evangelism is the vehicle through which the message of hope and redemption reaches those who are lost, providing them with the opportunity to experience a personal relationship with God.

In our efforts to evangelize, it is crucial to recognize that the Gospel message is for all mankind, transcending barriers of citizenship, ethnicity, economic position, and more. Galatians 3:28 emphasizes this inclusivity: "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." This scripture reminds us that the love of Christ is universal and that our mission is to share it with everyone, without prejudice or discrimination.

To effectively evangelize, we must embody the principles of love, compassion, and humility. 1 Peter 3:15 advises, "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." Our approach should be one of genuine care and respect for others, reflecting the character of Christ in our interactions.

Practical steps to help evangelize include building relationships with those around us, engaging in meaningful conversations about faith, and living out the Gospel through our actions. Additionally, supporting missionary work and utilizing modern technology to reach a broader audience can amplify our efforts.

In conclusion, evangelism is a vital aspect of the Christian faith, essential for spreading the message of Jesus Christ to all people. By embracing the call to evangelize with love and respect, we can fulfill the Great Commission and bring the hope of the Gospel to a world in need.

BISHOP JAMISON MESSAGE MARKER (5)_edited_edited.png

I was asked, "Bishop Jamison, can you share why you're choosing to convey the message of Jesus Christ through graphics, online written messages of hope, and video?" I responded in pertinent part:

"Sharing the message of Christ through video and written projects is my way of meeting the people where they are, while sharing the unconditional love of Jesus Christ while striving daily to be a light in the darkness of the world. In a time where negativity and despair often dominate, I believe in the transformative power of the Almighty God. Read John 3:16 and 17. By creating and sharing these projects, I aim to inspire, uplift, and bring comfort to those who are struggling in life and their faith. It's my mission to spread the message of reconciliation, compassion, and redemption, reminding everyone that there is always light, even in the darkest times."
