WE SHOULD ALL DO IT: GIVE THANKS

ree

We are all called to give thanks. Not just when things are good, but especially when they are not. Giving thanks is not optional, it is commanded. “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). We are supposed to do it. We are expected to do it. We are instructed by heaven to do it. Take a moment and sit down. Turn on the news. Look around. Matthew 24 is unfolding before our eyes, wars, famines, earthquakes, betrayal, deception, and the love of many waxing cold. Disasters are everywhere. Hearts are failing. But the question remains: why should we give thanks unto God, even in the bad times?

Because God is. He is still holy. He is still sovereign. He is still faithful. He is still good. He is still our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Giving thanks is not about denying the pain, it is about declaring the truth. It is about lifting our eyes above the storm and fixing them on the One who never changes. When we give thanks, we realign our hearts with heaven. We remind our souls that God is still on the throne. We silence the voice of fear and amplify the voice of faith. We declare that our gratitude is not based on what we see, but on who He is.

So today, give thanks. Not because everything is perfect, but because God is perfect. Not because the world is stable, but because God is unshakable. Not because you feel strong, but because His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Give thanks because it is your weapon. Give thanks because it is your witness. Give thanks because it is your worship. And when you do, heaven hears, hell trembles, and your soul finds rest.

With over 60 years in ministry, I have been teaching this to everyone, "Develop and attitude of gratitude and watch God respond to your need." The gift giver is more willing to give more, when you show how thankful you are. Get in the habit of letting God know how thankful you are and watch the blessings, keep roling in.
