Rejoicing in the Gift of Redemption
Text: "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." — Psalm 118:24 "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." — Luke 2:11
Christmas is a season of rejoicing, not simply because of lights, gifts, or gatherings, but because it marks the day when heaven’s greatest gift was revealed to the world. We rejoice and are glad because, as the angel declared in Luke 2:11, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” The birth of Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promise, the answer to humanity’s deepest need, and the reason we can celebrate with true joy.
From the Garden of Eden onward, mankind was encapsulated by sin and its consequences. When Adam and Eve fell, hope seemed lost, direction was broken, and humanity was separated from God. For generations, people lived under the weight of this separation, longing for redemption. But then came Jesus, who said, “I will go and redeem man back unto the Father.” That is the greatest love ever demonstrated, the love that moved heaven to earth, the love that wrapped divinity in humanity, the love that came to restore what was broken.
Because of Christ’s birth, we now have hope where there was once despair, light where there was once darkness, and direction where there was once confusion. His coming means we are no longer bound by sin but are invited into fellowship with God. This is why we rejoice and are glad, not because of temporary pleasures, but because of eternal redemption. Christmas is not just about remembering a baby in a manger; it is about celebrating the Savior who came to redeem us back to God.
So today, as we declare “This is the day the Lord has made,” we rejoice with gratitude, honor, and respect for Jesus’ birth. We celebrate because we have someone who has come to redeem us, someone who has bridged the gap between man and God, someone who has given us hope that endures beyond every situation. Truly, this is the day the Lord has made, and we will rejoice and be glad in it, for unto us a Savior is born, Christ the Lord.
Conclusion: Christmas is more than a season; it is a sacred reminder that God has given us reason to rejoice. From the fall of man in the Garden of Eden to the brokenness of our present world, humanity once lived without hope and true direction. But in the fullness of time, Jesus came, born in the city of David, to redeem us back to the Father. That is the greatest love ever shown.
So when we declare, “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it,” we do so with confidence, knowing that our rejoicing is not empty. It is rooted in the reality that Christ has come, hope has been restored, and redemption is ours. His birth is our assurance that God has not forgotten us, and His presence is our guarantee that we are never alone.
As we celebrate, honor, and respect the birth of Jesus, let us rejoice with grateful hearts. Let us live each day with the awareness that the Savior has come, and because He lives, we can face tomorrow. Truly, this is the day the Lord has made, and we will rejoice and be glad in it, for unto us a Savior is born, Christ the Lord.
Let's Join Together In Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for this day that You have made. We rejoice and are glad because You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to redeem us back to You. Thank You for the gift of salvation, for the hope that never fades, and for the love that never fails. As we celebrate this Christmas season, help us to honor Christ’s birth with lives that reflect gratitude, obedience, and joy. May our rejoicing be rooted not in earthly things, but in the eternal gift of redemption through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
