The North Carolina Diocese of The House of God Church, Inc. stands in deep sorrow and solemn prayer following the devastating tragedy that occurred in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Monday morning, April 20th. The loss of life is heartbreaking in any circumstance, but to learn of the deaths of eight precious children, taken while they slept, is a weight almost too heavy to comprehend.
We extend our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the families and loved ones of
Jayla Elkins (3), Shayla Elkins (5), Kayla Pugh (6), Layla Pugh (7), Markaydon Pugh (1), Sariahh Snow (11), Khedarrion Snow (6), and Braylon Snow (5). May the Lord also, be with the mothers of these children.
May the God of all comfort surround you, strengthen you, and carry you through this unimaginable grief.
To the Shreveport community, we join you in mourning and in seeking healing during this painful time. As the Scripture teaches us in Romans 12:15b, “…weep with them that weep.” Today, we weep with you.
We also take this moment to urge anyone facing domestic violence or unsafe living conditions to seek immediate help. No one, adult or child, should ever suffer harm in silence. Your life matters, and support is available.
As a church family and as a community of faith, let us continue to pray, to stand together, and to do all we can to support those in need. May peace, justice, and healing prevail.
Bishop Charlene M. Jamison
