Good News in Troubled Times
When we turn on the news today, much of what we see echoes the words of Matthew 24: wars and rumors of wars, nations rising against nations, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, betrayal, deception, and love growing cold. These are indeed the “beginning of sorrows.” Families wrestle with division, governments struggle with corruption, churches face challenges, and workplaces are filled with stress and uncertainty. It would be easy to lose hope in such a climate. Yet, in the midst of all this, the angel’s announcement to the shepherds still rings true: “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people” (Luke 2:10).
The good news of Christmas is not found in headlines or human systems, it is found in Jesus Christ. He was born to redeem us back to God, to bring peace in the storm, to give strength to endure every test, and to announce news of change, news of redemption, and news of eternal victory. Christmas reminds us that God did not leave us to face these sorrows alone. Emmanuel, God with us, entered the world so that we could walk through every valley with His presence.
This good news touches every sphere of life. In the family, Christ brings reconciliation and love where division tries to reign. In government, His kingdom is unshakable, reminding us that He rules above all earthly powers. In the church, He is the Head, guiding His people with truth and light. On the job, He gives strength, favor, and endurance in daily labor. And in personal storms, He whispers, “Peace, be still.”
Matthew 24 reminds us that endurance is key: “He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” Endurance is not possible in our own strength, but through the power of the Almighty God. When we invite Him in, He fills us with hope, courage, and the assurance that we are not alone.
This Christmas, let us not only celebrate the birth of Christ but also embrace the good news He brings: news of redemption for the broken, news of peace for the troubled, news of strength for the weary, and news of eternal joy for all who endure in Him. Lift your head, rejoice, and remember: the Savior has come, and because He lives, we can face tomorrow.
God bless you all.
