A reflective moment from our Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop Charlene M. Jamison
After reading Micah 6:8, and asking God for His continued wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of His Holy Writ, I am enlightened by the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God. Micah delivers a profound message from the Almighty God, emphasizing the essence of living a righteous life regardless of the unrighteousness that hovers over all. This verse tells us that "He [God] has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." This scripture summarizes the core of God's expectations for humanity, urging us to transcend negativity and embody virtues that foster harmony and compassion.
To "act justly" means to uphold fairness and integrity in all our dealings. It calls for a commitment to justice, ensuring that our actions reflect equity and righteousness. This principle challenges us to confront injustice and advocate for the marginalized, promoting a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
To "love mercy" is to cultivate a heart of kindness and compassion. It encourages us to extend grace and forgiveness, recognizing the inherent worth of every individual. By loving mercy, we create a culture of empathy and support, where acts of kindness become the norm rather than the exception.
To "walk humbly with your God" signifies a life of humility and devotion. It reminds us to acknowledge our dependence on God, seeking His guidance and wisdom in all aspects of life. Humility fosters a spirit of gratitude and reverence, allowing us to live in harmony with God's will.
In essence, Micah 6:8 calls us to rise above negativity and embody justice, kindness, and humility. By doing so, we align ourselves with God's vision for a just and compassionate world.
