TOPIC FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE: YOU'VE GOT THE KEYS, SO USE THEM.
Text: Matthew 16:19, "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
“The keys of the Kingdom, represent the authority to open the way for people to “enter into the Kingdom of God.” (Matthew 16:19; Acts 14:22) * Jesus gave Peter “the keys of the Kingdom of the heaven.” This means that Peter received the authority to unlock information about how faithful people, by receiving God’s holy spirit, could enjoy the privilege of entering the Kingdom in heaven and partaking in the splendor of it.
For whom were the keys used?
Peter used authority from God to open the way for three groups to enter the Kingdom:
Jews and Jewish converts. Shortly after Jesus’ death, Peter encouraged a crowd of Jewish believers to accept Jesus as the one selected by God to rule in the Kingdom. Peter showed them what they must do to get saved. He thus opened the way for them to enter the Kingdom, and thousands “accepted his word.”—Acts 2:38-41.
Samaritans. Peter was later sent to the Samaritans. * He again used a key of the Kingdom when he, along with the apostle John, “prayed for them to get holy spirit.” (Acts 8:14-17) This opened the way for the Samaritans to enter the Kingdom.
Gentiles. Three and a half years after Jesus’ death, God revealed to Peter that Gentiles (non-Jews) would also have the opportunity to enter the Kingdom. In response, Peter used one of the keys by preaching to Gentiles, thus opening the door for them to receive the holy spirit, become Christians, and be prospective members of the Kingdom.—Acts 10:30-35, 44, 45.
What does it mean to “enter into the Kingdom”?
Those who actually “enter into the Kingdom” become corulers with Jesus in heaven. The Bible foretold that they would “sit on thrones” and “rule as kings over the earth.”—Luke 22:29, 30; Revelation 5:9, 10.
THE THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH
This month I want you to focus on answering this question, "Do You Have Your Keys?"
I checked to make sure that I had everything that I needed before I left for my appointment. I placed everything by the front door, gathered my things and walked out of the house. I had everything in my arms and proceeded to the car. Once I got to the car, the door would not open, instantly, it I knew that I didn't have the keys to the car.
I am sharing this with you to let you know that sometimes we can do everything we know to do, and even at our best of planning, we forget the most important things - check for the keys. Keys are one of the most often lost/ misplaced items. Keys are small, but they can also open and close big things.
Just stop and think for a minute, about a door that's locked tightly against us. What I want you to know today, however, is this: we can open that door! Jesus Himself has given us the keys. Right now, you may be facing a situation that looks utterly hopeless, but God has a key ring full of keys that will unlock any situation. Deep within our hearts, each of us knows there must be an answer to the problem we face. But often it seems to be out of reach, hidden behind a door that's locked tightly against us. Today, I want you to remember that God, sent Jesus with the keys that open the doors for you spiritually, physically, financially and emotionally. The enemy knows he has to keep coming against you as hard as he can, because he knowns that if you'll get hold of the right key, you can find your way out.
HERE IS A UNIVERSAL KEY that can unlock any door: Luke 10:19, "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Speak that scripture out loud and let the devils of hell know that, "I WILL NO LONGER BE HELD CAPTIVE, BECAUSE THROUGH CHRIST I HAVE THE KEYS." We may misplace our keys on earth, but we can never misplace our spiritual keys.
God's Word is full of keys of kingdom principles—keys to bind the devil's operations and keys to loose yourself from his snares. God has a key that will unravel any knot that the devil can tie. He also has a key that will lock up the devil's operation so tightly that he won't be able to move.
Remember this: There's no situation so dark and so cleverly designed by the forces of darkness that there is not a kingdom key that will unlock it with kingdom power.
There is an answer to your situation. So keep digging for it. If you've been digging in the Word of God in one spot and haven't found your answer, then look at another chapter, a different verse. Keep digging until you find the key. Keep knocking at every door until you find the one that opens. YOU'VE GOT THE KEYS, SO USE THEM.
